The Story Of Lacey Fletcher Tragic Death

The story behind Lacey Fletcher's tragic death would make anyone not trust their loved ones to care for them in an unresponsive wakefulness syndrome. Lacey was only 36, and she suffered from a condition known as locked-in syndrome. According to the National Institute of Health, "Locked-in syndrome is a rare nervous system disorder. People with locked-in syndrome are: Paralyzed except for the muscles that control eye movement." You would think that Ms. Fletcher's parents would take care of their daughter, knowing that she cannot care for her wellbeing, but that was not the case for Lacey Fletcher.

It has been fifteen years since Ms. Fletcher was seen in the public eye. According to one of the neighbors, Lacey was last seen carrying a small weight around the neighborhood and would have been around 21 years old. The neighbor, Robert Blades, said, "She was always pretty thin, and she was exercising in the road with those small weights you carry. I would see her a few times, gently getting some exercise in the roadway. I didn't say anything to her that final time; there was no reason to." Mr. Blades mentions that he confronted clay fletcher about his daughter's whereabouts five years ago. Mr. Blades asked Mr. Fletcher, "How is Lacey? How's she doing? Has she moved off? Went to college or what? He replied, oh no, she's still here. She's fine. And then changed the subject. And that's it. He didn't explain why we hadn't seen her at all." Mr. Blades took clay word it and didn't bring up his daughter ever since.

Fifteen years later, Lacey Fletcher was found dead in her parent's home in New Orleans; LA, reported having "melted" into the couch. She was found to be covered in sores, feces, and urine, and her body seemed to be suffering from neglect. Authorities have said. "The woman had fecal matter shoved into her face, chest, and abdomen. Her hygiene had been allowed to deteriorate so much that hair was matted, knotted, and filled with maggots..." Her body had sunk deeply into the couch, forming a hole filled with her urine and feces. Judicial district attorney Sam Daquila said, "The victim's body was covered in ulcers on her underside and appeared rotten to the bone." It appeared that Lacey had never moved from this couch in many years and was punished to a life of misery as she lay in her own feces and starved.

                                                                        Lacey Parents

Lacey parents claim that their daughter began to develop Asperger's syndrome after ninth grade, and that's when she started to be home all the time. They felt homeschooling her was the best option for her future. Mr. and Ms. Fletcher are both playing victims regarding their daughter passing away due to their neglect. Sheila Fletcher, who is the mother of Lacey Fletcher, wrote a Facebook post stating that she loved her daughter so much. They ask that everyone leave them in peace as they mourn the loss of their daughter.

Fletcher's parents have been charged with second-degree murder and pleaded not guilty to this charge. Later, they were freed on $300,000 bail and continued not to speak on their side of the story. They wish to remain private and hope that people know that they loved their daughter and would not have purposely murdered her. The fletchers want their daughter to know they love her and wish her peace.

Lacey Fletcher did not deserve to suffer a tragic death at the hands of her parents' neglect. If her parents could not give her the life she deserves due to her condition, they should have put her in a home that would address her needs properly. The parents need to face serious charges and need their freedom taken. This story should be a lesson that caregivers need to take care of their loved ones properly, and if you can't handle their condition, you should put them in a home or hire someone to care for them. Lacey deserves happiness, and I hope she is free from suffering.
